Killdear, Gulls & more birds at belmar park
Last weekend I went to a local "Park", Belmar Park, which is a hot spot for birds. Because it so popular, and has a lot of great places for wildlife, particularly water birds, to live, it's almost like going to the zoo. Every time I go, I get at least a few good shots.
There was some fall color which I was able to use to clean up the backgrounds. Higher up, the vegetation was still very green, so getting down low, to eye height with the birds also gave me the warm golden bokeh. The female Black Crowned Night Heron was a bit of surprise… I was trying to get closer to the Snowy Egret without disturbing it and almost crashed into the heron. She was so well camouflaged that I got to within just a few feet before we saw each other… luckily I saw her first and snapped a shot before she flew away. I got a few shots of the male too but he was sitting against a really busy background so the shots didn’t turn out.
Early in the morning, with the warm light and deep black shadows the Snowy Egrets really pop. Every time I’ve gone to Belmar Park I’ve gotten at least one good shot. This is my favorite from this outing.
